CPR fire class: what to specify before you ask for a price
The single line most often missing from an EU cable enquiry — and why it changes the lead time, not just the price.
Nine out of ten enquiries we get from EU projects for indoor cable arrive without a reaction-to-fire class. It is an easy thing to leave out, and it is the one line that decides which sheath compound the cable is extruded with.
Under the Construction Products Regulation, cables permanently installed in buildings carry a Euroclass — Aca down through B2ca, Cca, Dca, Eca and Fca. A project specifying Cca and a project specifying Eca are not asking for the same cable, and the difference is not a surcharge: it is a different compound, a different extrusion setup, and often a different lead time.
What to send with the enquiry
- The Euroclass the project specifies, including the additional s (smoke), d (droplets) and a (acidity) classifications if they are called out
- Whether a Declaration of Performance is required with the shipment
- Whether the run is indoor, outdoor, or crosses a building entry
With those three lines we can quote a construction that will actually pass site inspection. Without them, any price we give is a guess at which compound you meant.
